don't be so hard on yourself buddy- you probably don't suck that much
if you haven't got money go the software route pick up: Fruity Loops Acid Reason Cool Edit there are a few others people use but these are some of the most popular and you can get them for free if you know whom to talk to...

Yeah, I think that's the right way to go. I think that Fruity Loops will fit you best. You can download a demo with save disable on the site, but, as J_Wilson said, if you talk to the right people you can get it for free. Reason is a little more professional than FruityLoops, but still easy.

definately fruityfor you!
use reason once you can wrap you head round all the effects and filters..
fruity is more user friendly to learn on for sure..
good luck,

don't waste your time or effort with fruity loops. fruity loops is a joke... reason is nice, i have reason, but i really wish i had an analouge synth, and some mixer discs; soft synths just blow.

'Lo all... I've worked with AcidPRO a fair bit in the past, but never really created anything useful.
I've got the right software if i'm following your earlier advice, but does anyone have any suggestions/tips on creating catchy beats using the software?

For any newbie to software: FruityLoops 3.4 is your FRIEND! I've got it and love it... though it takes some time to really get good at composing on it. Setting up loops and patters is simple though. I'll post on here again once I've got a good song put together and give y'all a link. But no matter what anyone says, FruityLoops is a wonderful beginners tool. I've got Reason and ReBirth also, but obviously they have a steeper learning curve. Hope this helps!

Hey, best of luck.. I'm sure everyone here wasn't very good when they started producing stuff either... =) I know I wasn't, and compared to others, I still suck.. =)
But you know, you just have to stay with it.. =) Stuff I recommend:
GoldWave - FreeWare Reason - $$$ SCMPX - FreeWare
Goldwave is a wave/mp3 editor, like cool edit, but I like this one better.. but that just me.
Reason - I'm preatty sure you already know what this is.. =)
SCMPX is an MP3 encoder.. to put your stuff on the internet.. =) I recomend it.. =)
Best of luck friend.. =)

hey don't be so hard on yourself....we've all been newbies sometimes ya know
although fruity loops is easy (although I've never used it but everyone keep saying it is so) i recomend that you go for reason from the start...the learning curve might be steep in the beginning but once youv'e gotten used to it you won't regret that you went for it directly
I've been using reason for maybe 4-5 months now and I have been able to produce songs without problems for the last 2 months and it get's better fast...so once your'e past those learningmonths it's a wonderful program to use
so my advice: go for reason and save time

yea if you know youre serious about making electronica then go for reason. its expensive but it is definately the right thing. if youre not quite sure, get a cheap ne although itll be a biotch to learn one software and then have to relearn. it tok me 6 months to learn reason and i had no prior computer music experience at all. its best if you have friends who are into it they can help you
peace
