MP3.com NEWS -> P4P Promotion Will be Discontinued!

*** FROM THE MP3.com NEWS ***
URL: http://help.mp3.com/help/article/pas_changes.html

It's our goal to offer Premium Artists the best service for their money and tools that benefit all members. But this was getting more difficult given the enormous accounting, engineering, research and fulfillment costs that went into both the P4P promotion and regrettably, the monitoring of individuals gaming the system. We have thus decided to discontinue the P4P promotion on January 15, 2003.

Any Qualified Plays prior to January 14, 11:59 p.m. PST will count toward you earnings.

After January 15, Payback for Playback promotion earnings will be archived in your Artist Earnings area so you can make your own calculations.

Remember, earnings are distributed to Artists who have an account balance of $50 or more at the end of a quarter unless Hold Earnings or ING Direct is their designated method of payment. If your account balance is less than $50 at the end of a quarter, that amount will carry over to the following quarter(s) until you have accrued $50 or more by the end of a quarter.

If you are concerned about the $50 minimum, here are some points to keep in mind:

· If you are member of our CD Program, it's possible you will reach the $50 threshold through CD sales earnings.

· You can spend your P4P promotion earnings as Artist Cash until January 15, 2003.

I just found our from my MP3.com admin area...

In short this means that artists no longer will be paid for their downloads as of January 15, 2003!

To me this is a strike of disaster as the money I earn from mp3.com is a fairly large part of my income.

My first impressions tell me to find a new mp3 hosting service that pay for the downloads. I'm not sure about you guys what you think but my first thought is www.javamusic.com

They're supposed to pay $0.07 per download if you subscribe for the annual fee of $150

[MP3.com pay $0.005 per download with an annual $19.99 x 12 ($240) fee]

Thoughts comments please.... If we can join forces we can most likely attract people to whatever new site there is and by that also gain downloads faster.

That's BRUTAL!!! I think javamusic.com is a good alternative, it's about the only other site of this type that I've actually heard of, and I'm sure that goes for a lot of other people too... I'm confident you guys will find another alternative.... keep it up and don't let the dream die because of something stupid like this!!

Well, there's no turning back now

I just signed up for a membership @ Javamusic
Page is to be found @ www.javamusic.com/trancecontrol

Currently uploading tracks like crazy trying to add what we have on mp3.com (46 songs or so)

One great thing here though! 192 kbps MP3 files seem to be allowed making it an extra feature

If we where to have 5,300,000 downloads from that site then yes..

Though that's not the case...

In total we've had 2,000 downloads from javamusic over the course of about a year - we droped the ball on the site pretty fast when we first signed up.

Though it would be fun to have the MP3.com traffic we get on Javamusic - 10-15,000 downloads per day

Personally I don't like that you have to register to download from javamusic... but it's the best choice for you now...
I think we all should support t[]c a bit here! Man, they do all they can to make the music free for other people to download and listen to! And they just get this sh*t thrown in the face? It's unfair!! They deserve much better! I'm not saying this only as a t[]c fan, but I know you, Alle, and I have understood that you really care about your fans! And that's what makes you so special! I couldn't just send a message to Tiësto in ICQ and say, "yo man, 'sup? any new tracks lately?"
So I say again that we should all support t[]c on our best! (as I know you guys will!) and accept the decisions they have to make, like now, moving to javamusic.

okay, I think I should stop now before I get too sucked into this

Really? I live in NJ and I am yet to meet one person who actually likes trance, wether it be trance[]control, Aura, Labworks, or any of my other favorite artists! I think this is for two reasons: there isn't vocals [except for songs from Labworks/Dynamic], and there is no guitar! It drives me insane when nobody understands the true worth of music! If it doesn't have vocals, or at least guitar, they dont't give a sh*t about it....

I am also looking for a alternative. I am not a PAS member op mp3.com so I will only be allowed to have 3 tracks on my mp3.com and some stupid other things. I was really starting loving mp3.com but well this sucks like hell.

Btw you said They're supposed to pay $0.07 per download if you subscribe for the annual fee of $150

is that the fee for 1 month or 1 year?

It's an annual fee..

However, I just read on the javamusic messageboard that they'll stop paying royalties as of January 01, 2003...

In short - DON'T SIGN UP FOR JAVAMUSIC!

If you know of any other options where you get the chance to get paid from your downloads, feel free to post that here.

All the best
