Studio Monitors

I know that I definatly need a good pair before I expect to write music that sounds good on speakers other than my old ratty ones. Does anybody have anything good/bad to say about M-Audio's Studiophile SP-5B?

hmm, don't know anything about them, sorry...

But if you want to go for the really pro ones, then try out Hafler TRM-6 or TRM-8

Yeah, maybe I don't want to know what they would cost...

Cost is the reason I was looking at the SP-5B's anyway, hehe . Oh well, there's soo much I need and so little money to buy it; I forget how much money I have left from graduation, but I'm pretty sure just the SP-5B would send me broke , if I can even afford them. Oh well, I guess i should just wait until the summer when i can get a job.

I have two Hafler TRM-8 and the Hafler TRM-10

You didn't want to know the price, so I will only say they were damn expensive
And, yes! I bought them myself

The sound is absolutely great! It's like, they do not enhance the sound in any possible way that often Hi-fi speakers and some other monitors do, but they tell you exactly how the sound is, so if you make your tracks sound good on them, you can be sure it sounds great on all other speakers! They also have a very tight bass. You can read all the specs on www.hafler.com.
I've heard that many pro's use them, one group here in Norway that use them is "a-ha".

m audio are a great product.. if u want less mabye go for a pair of behringer truths.
not necessarily more expensive is better - but more often than not it is..

If you get a pair of really nice headphones, you can make sure your sound is absolutely perfect. I think anybody that is totally into music, like dedicating their life to it (me! ), should have totally completely awesome speakers or headphones. If you have enough money to buy those speakers, then buy them, don't hold back. It's your connection to the musical world. It's like if you were a visual artist, you'd get nice paper and paints, or a computer graphic artist - you'd get a really nice, big monitor.

Bose makes some completely awesome headphones that sells for $150, and I am totally into them. The frequency range in it is amazing and almost perfectly linear, and it is so comfortable. The muffers of it shape to the outside of your ears, so the headphones press against your head around your ears, not the ears themselves, so you never get tired of wearing them. Man I want a pair of those! But I could get a lot more for $150 non-headphone-wise, so I have to watch my $$.
