How do you feel about us moving our downloadable music to Javamusic?
Whatever put's food on your table...
Please don't! It's annoying!
Whatever you say - I don't care.

trance[]control @ Javamusic (Again)

As mp3.com seem determined to stop the P4P system as of January 15, 2003 ( .View Post ), we need to find ourselves a new option to get paid for our downloads. It is and has been a major part of our income the past years as well as the key for us to work with trance[]control as a fulltime job.

About a year ago when mp3.com was acting wierd lowering payments and such, we found www.javamusic.com - a site that pay 14x the ammount mp3.com pay per download (No! There's no charge to download music from Javamusic). Now we're doing the same thing over again...

To me this is an easy desicion, though we will keep our music and CD's as usuall on mp3.com - The new songs however, will only be available for hi-fi / lo-fi streaming - the downloadable versions will be uploaded to our Javamusic page @ www.javamusic.com/trancecontrol

Even though this pretty much is decided I ask you for your opinion.

I'm unsure weather Javamusic would be able to or would pay, if we manage to send a large part of our mp3.com visitors to download our music @ javamusic. However, I guess that remains to be seen.

All the best

About P4P

I got that mail too, but as i cold see it, they won´t stop the P4P system, only taking away the possibilities to use it as payment for mp3.com services, so it should be almost the same except for paying for the PAS must be with a credit card. On the other hand 7cent/download can be a lot of cash in the end, but no cash for streaming.
Another thing:
I was in contact with STIM regarding the reports from mp3.com and they were suspecting that mp3.com weren´t doing accurate reports.

And why do i wite this in english and not swedish? I dunno :-)

Naw but it's good that you write in English, the most people here on the board are not from Sweden

yeah, but they're stopping the P4P system too! I got the mail today... and I was shocked! They said they're stopping the artist cash program, yes (which is the method of using artist cash on mp3.com services), but they also said that from January 15th, they're stopping the p4p system...
oh, and another bad news to all of you non-premium artists:
non-premium artists can only have 3 songs on their page, maximum! That sucks for all of ya

oh, and btw, the reason I'm not moving to javamusic.com is that I don't make a living of the money I got from mp3.com and that I want my music to as free as possible for everyone to download, and on javamusic.com you have to be a member to download music... I've seen ampcast.com too, but didn't like it... anyone else know of a good site ?
btw, madnote, we shouldn't worry too much...*AHEM* (nordic-records)*AHEM*

NOWHERE: STIM Does not have anything to do with MP3.com... Trust me, with 6,000,000+ downloads so far from mp3.com I pretty much had to find out if there was any STIM royalties to expect.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just got this in the mail... I hope to god that this guy is wrong in his review.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

POSTED IN THE FORUM @ 1sound.com

Let's review the rest of the OMD scene:
JavaMusic is struggling to stay alive. The madatory espresso membership backfired, most artists left, they recanted and let the free artists back to post a few songs but the damage was already done. They laid off most of the staff, have not had any worthwhile promo opportunities since Bobby Deal (formerly Bobby Bensley) left, so artists are not renewing their membership and money seems to be drying up. There are people who have not yet received DL payments and VRS commissions going back to June. Their CD program "DiscAlliance" is good, but JavaMusic seems more like a ghost town these days, looks grim to me.

Ampcast has a mandatory artist payment model, people I have heard from there seem happy, particularly with their support for homegrown radio programming. I can't comment on their viability.

ArtistLaunch had a recent change in ownership. followed immediately by a horribly botched server move and disk failure, where we learned the only usable backup was around 9 months old, so lots of lost artist pages and songs. AL still has a bunch of loyal artists. New owner Paul is trying to build up the CD program, trying to do positive things (Bobby Deal signed up to do part-time A&R), but the extended outage and loss of content may be fatal, time will tell.

Tonos is trying to act like an OMD while they sell pop star wannabees their overblown "industry opportunities". If they can keep getting people to shell out the money by dangling dreams of pop stardom in front of them, they'll stay in business for the forseeable future.

IUMA keeps plugging along, propped up by Vitaminic, I have no idea how long their charge nothing, do nothing, advertising-driven model will stay viable.

The Australian mp3.com.au also appears to be a charge nothing, do nothing site, but they at least have some real fans who have an appetite for listening to newly posted music.

I think garageband has risen from the ashes and is releasing a compilation album, I don't know what the scene over there is these days.

Other than 1sound, the most interesting development in the OMD world is the Clear Channel New Music site http://newmusic.clearchannel.com - free for now, not too many people there yet, artists signing up and uploading music, even though we have no idea where this site is heading. Since Clear Channel is so dominant in the radio biz, maybe this will be a place to provide quality indie artists the real-world promotion and validation for the fans we so desperately crave!

"Lovely - You ain't going nowhere if you're just watching"

Go For IT >>

HeY... I say go For it , Alex....

Yeah, you know? MP3.COM's done quite a good to this point at paying for all your personal success..
But as every artist should realize.... you guys also have to live and support yourselves.

And if Javamusic's going to do it, then go for it. Don't abandon mp3.com or anything, but you must go on. That's a fact of life. Sometimes you gotta keep moving in order to survive.
After all, there seems to be no real reson to keep all of your free downloads on that page. I think you'd have no problem at all moving all your fans to this site if you dedicated yourselves to it.

Stick w/ it, and see how it works, I say. I've been watching you guys since about 99' and been behind you all the way. If you ask me, personally..... I think you guys truly have more than what it takes to be very successful.

I'd also like to see some more CD's being released. I actually look forward to your cd's coming out. And, YES, i love to pay for them . Because you guys are incredible musical geniuses and i support you all the way.

Keep up the good work and remember, it's your sound, It's your music, Love it, fee it, and share it with the world.

STIM

Sorry about this reply is in swedish but it regards the swedish performing rights organization STIM, and i didn´t bother to translate it.

</Peter>
