NOWHERE: STIM Does not have anything to do with MP3.com... Trust me, with 6,000,000+ downloads so far from mp3.com I pretty much had to find out if there was any STIM royalties to expect.

Just got this in the mail... I hope to god that this guy is wrong in his review.

POSTED IN THE FORUM @ 1sound.com
Let's review the rest of the OMD scene:
JavaMusic is struggling to stay alive. The madatory espresso membership backfired, most artists left, they recanted and let the free artists back to post a few songs but the damage was already done. They laid off most of the staff, have not had any worthwhile promo opportunities since Bobby Deal (formerly Bobby Bensley) left, so artists are not renewing their membership and money seems to be drying up. There are people who have not yet received DL payments and VRS commissions going back to June. Their CD program "DiscAlliance" is good, but JavaMusic seems more like a ghost town these days, looks grim to me.
Ampcast has a mandatory artist payment model, people I have heard from there seem happy, particularly with their support for homegrown radio programming. I can't comment on their viability.
ArtistLaunch had a recent change in ownership. followed immediately by a horribly botched server move and disk failure, where we learned the only usable backup was around 9 months old, so lots of lost artist pages and songs. AL still has a bunch of loyal artists. New owner Paul is trying to build up the CD program, trying to do positive things (Bobby Deal signed up to do part-time A&R), but the extended outage and loss of content may be fatal, time will tell.
Tonos is trying to act like an OMD while they sell pop star wannabees their overblown "industry opportunities". If they can keep getting people to shell out the money by dangling dreams of pop stardom in front of them, they'll stay in business for the forseeable future.
IUMA keeps plugging along, propped up by Vitaminic, I have no idea how long their charge nothing, do nothing, advertising-driven model will stay viable.
The Australian mp3.com.au also appears to be a charge nothing, do nothing site, but they at least have some real fans who have an appetite for listening to newly posted music.
I think garageband has risen from the ashes and is releasing a compilation album, I don't know what the scene over there is these days.
Other than 1sound, the most interesting development in the OMD world is the Clear Channel New Music site http://newmusic.clearchannel.com - free for now, not too many people there yet, artists signing up and uploading music, even though we have no idea where this site is heading. Since Clear Channel is so dominant in the radio biz, maybe this will be a place to provide quality indie artists the real-world promotion and validation for the fans we so desperately crave!
