How sources are classified

Band, at the timeMade by the band when it happened (e.g. its own website). Shows the claim was made then; not independent proof.
Independent, at the timeMade by a third party when it happened: a chart, a magazine, a platform's own counter.
Written laterWritten after the fact about the past, e.g. a biography from 2005 describing 1998.
RecollectionFirsthand memory of someone who was there, recorded for this archive.

Claims and their evidence

Attested Atomic Dance Explosion reached number 1 on MP3.com across all genres in March 1999.

In January 1999 the band reported the track at No. 9 on the MP3.com Top 40, behind the Beastie Boys; on 25 March 1999 at No. 1. The 2005 biography says it held the No. 1 spot for over three months. No MP3.com chart page from 1999 has been examined yet.

Sources differ Atomic Dance Explosion stayed on the MP3.com Top 40 for 81 or more consecutive weeks.

Historical descriptions differ between 81 and more than 82 consecutive weeks. The 2005 biography gives 81 weeks in a row, with the band removing the track in the 82nd week. The discrepancy is kept as published.

Attested In spring 1999 the band ranked second among all MP3.com artists and first among European artists.

The band's reading of MP3.com's statistics, published at the time. No independent MP3.com ranking page has been examined.

Attested Fragment of Time reached number 16 on MP3.com's overall Top 40 within about three weeks.

Reported in band-authored records according to the project brief; the archive has not yet located a contemporary page with the figure. The earliest Teraxis captures are from February 1999.

Attested Heaven (Black Tiger Recordings, BTR-005) reached number 1 on DJMR's trance chart in 2005.

The band's own news list dates the number-one placement to 14 June 2005 ("BTR-005 - DJMR Trance - No#1"). A snapshot of DJMR's chart of 29 August 2005 is reported to show Heaven at No. 2, with Tiësto at No. 1 and Ferry Corsten at No. 3; the chart pages themselves have not been examined yet.

Attested The band reached over 10 million valid downloads on MP3.com.

The band's 2005 biography defines a valid download as a download or stream lasting at least 30 seconds, counted once per user per track per day, and calls the band the only artist to pass 10 million. Alexander recalls the nearest competing act at about 6 million. The November 2003 MP3.com profile, being recovered, is reported to show 9,753,039 total plays.

Unverified A June 2000 band biography reports more than 3 million internet downloads.

The June 2000 biography on the Teraxis site is being recovered; the figure has not yet been read from the capture.

Attested For April 1999 the band reported 186,973 visits and 129,165 downloads on its MP3.com page.

Figures as published by the band from its MP3.com statistics. The same news item claims second place among all MP3.com artists and first among European artists. Earlier, on 22 April 1999, the band reported 145,000 visits and 96,000 downloads in 21 days.

Sources differ trance[]control was founded in Gothenburg in 1997 by Alexander Carlborg and Andreas Wennersköld.

All sources agree on 1997 and on the two founders. They differ on the part of the year: the band's 2004–2005 site says "the first months of 1997" and "early 1997", while Alexander's 2026 recollection places the founding in the second half of 1997. Both readings are kept.

Attested Sony contacted the band about music for the PlayStation 2 game Frequency (2001); the contribution did not go ahead after the band's manager failed to follow up.

This is a firsthand account, not a completed contract. The 2005 biography names the game "FREQ" and says the band missed the deadline because it was not properly informed. Alexander identifies his Sony contact as Chuck Doud, credited as the game's music director; the credits themselves are still to be examined.

Attested Early on, the band turned down a record contract with Universal Music in Germany by mistake.
Sources differ The band withdrew from Love Parade 2003 in Berlin.

The band's own 2005 agenda lists Love Parade 2003 among past performances without a cancellation note. Alexander's account is that the band withdrew. A listing as past is a statement made at the time, not proof of a performance.

Attested Love Parade 2004 in Berlin, where the band was booked, was canceled by its organisers.
Attested The band's first US performance was at PLURFEST 2000 – Vol. 1 PEACE, Fort Collins, Colorado, on 3 June 2000, where it headlined.

The concert calendar of September 2000 records the date and event (capture being recovered). Alexander recalls headlining, Christopher Lawrence also on the bill, about 5,000 people, fire doors forced open at the start, and the sub-bass system clipping during Another Beat.

Attested The band's MP3.com artist page was number 749, in the Techno section.

The number appears in the URL the band published in November 1998. The registration month (August 1998) rests on Alexander's account; no capture of the MP3.com page from 1998 is known.

Unverified American Remix Magazine ran a long feature on the band, reportedly calling it the "Biggest Swedish Export Since ABBA".

Alexander's recollection. The issue has not been located and the wording is unconfirmed.

Attested Atomic Dance Explosion was featured in the BBC programme Tomorrow's World.

Reported by the band in May 1999. Broadcast date and independent confirmation still to be found.

Attested On 18 October 1998 the band signed a contract giving Frontline Music Publishing the rights to "Fragment of Time" and "Virtual Love".
Sources differ Atomic Dance Explosion was released on MP3.com on 7 November 1998.

The band's dated news item of 7 November 1998 announces the release. The 2005 biography says the track was "Produced by Alexander Carlborg, December 1998", a month after that release. The later date may refer to a later version; until that is established both statements are kept.

Attested Heaven is an original trance[]control production made for the band's 2004 performance at Heaven, London.

Vinyl edition branding or presenter credits are not authorship.

Attested The band's remix of MOVE "Rage your Dream" was released on Avex Trax in Japan.

The 2005 discography dates the remix 2000-03-23. The biography adds that the original reached No. 3 on Billboard Japan and that Avex later made a video from the remix; those details are the band's.

Attested The album Beyond 2001 – the resurrection sold about 18,000 copies in the US and Canada.

The 2005 biography calls Beyond 2001 the debut album, while the same site's discography lists earlier albums (the.demo.cd, 1999-01-10; Beyond 2000, 1999-08-16). It also says the label projected 3,000 copies and spent $8,000 on promotion.

Attested In 2001 the band ran a Studio CAM: a Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000 with live video and camera-microphone audio distributed through DI.FM.

Streaming codec and protocol are not yet confirmed.
