About the release

In January 1999 the band announced that its "demo-cd" was available through MP3.com. Its biography of June 2000 calls the CD no more than a demo of five tracks that could still be downloaded for free, made "more of a funny thing to do" than for profit. The band's discography of October 2000 lists the five: Trapped [1999 Edition], Atomic Dance Explosion [Radio Edit], The beat goes on [TB House Mix], Inside [Aggressive House Mix] and This is my HOUSE. MP3.com sold it as a DAM CD, with the songs both as CD audio and as MP3 files, for $5.99.3,1,2,4

The two were amazed, the biography says, that the CD sold at all, and it sold well for a disc whose tracks were free. On the band's songs page of 10 March 1999 all five of its tracks were on MP3.com's techno chart, Atomic Dance Explosion at No. 2 and This is my HOUSE at No. 4. On 25 March, when Atomic Dance Explosion reached No. 1 on MP3.com, the band thanked those who had bought the CD and wrote that the cheque for its sales would pay for turning its garage into a studio. By 7 November 1999, with Beyond 2000 also on sale, the band counted 1,550 CDs sold in total.1,5,3,6

By June 2003 the band's music page listed the.demo.cd as no longer available, and in June 2004, after MP3.com had closed, as discontinued. The band's later discographies still listed it: in 2005 under its own label name, trance[]control Productions, without a track list, and in 2013 as The Demo CD.7,8,9,10

In their words

“The CD itself wasn't meant to gain any profit, it was more of a funny thing to do.”

trance[]control, 29 June 20001

“The pay check for the CD sales just arrived and we're gonna use the monney to rebuild our garage and turn it into a studio as a tribute to our fans.”

trance[]control, 25 March 19993
