Background

Cosmic Gate was a German DJ and production duo from Krefeld: Claus Terhoeven (Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (Bossi). After releasing separate projects on the Cologne label X-IT, they made their first joint track, The Drums, after a chance studio session in late 1998, and Fire Wire reached No. 9 in the UK singles chart in 2001. At the time

Cosmic Gate were No. 81 in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs of 2004, up from No. 86 in 2003, and No. 90 in 2005. In 2004 they released the two-part vinyl EP Different Concept, including Bilingual, and a remix of The Age of Love, while working on a third album. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Later

Their third album, Earth Mover (2006), left the hard-trance sound behind, and in 2009 they reached No. 19 in DJ Mag's poll. In 2018 Nic Chagall was nominated for a Grammy for a remix of Gabriel & Dresden's Only Road, and in February 2026 the duo announced that Bossi was leaving and that Nic Chagall would carry on Cosmic Gate alone.
