28 years ago today: Atomic Dance Explosion hits MP3.com
28 years ago today, on November 7, 1998, Andreas and I posted a new track on MP3.com and more or less begged everyone to go and download it. That track was Atomic Dance Explosion. I had made it earlier that year, and it was built on what we called our new sound. Modesty was not our strong suit back then. The news post on this very site said, word for word, "belive us, this is a killer!" Spelling wasn't our strong suit either. The track was available on MP3.com in both Real Audio and MP3. And to make sure you really went over there, we also put the Real Audio radio edit up here on our own site. A free taster, so to speak, in the hope that you'd head to MP3.com for the rest. In an age of dial-up modems, that was our idea of a marketing strategy. It worked better than we could have hoped. Exactly one year later, on November 7, 1999, we wrote our monthly MP3.com statistics report, and Atomic Dance Explosion was still at No. 1. That same report apologised for us being lousy at answering mail, because we'd been busy: our first live gig had just been booked, at a party for the PlayStation game Wipeout 3 at Medborgarhuset in Stockholm on November 26, 1999. In 1999 the track also ended up on our first CD, The.Demo.CD, and it's still the most talked-about thing trance[]control ever made. The radio edit is on Bandcamp if you want to hear it again, or for the first time. Do you remember where you first heard it?
