About the release

In its newsletter of 30 May 2000 the band announced that it had just finished its next CD album, Beyond 2001 - the Resurrection, due in August, and that it was thinking of a release party in New York with the album performed live in a public place. Sunrise Recordings released it on 22 August 2000 as SRR-102, with the label given as Sunrise Recordings / SHR / Chicago, publishing by Popwire, administration by Universal and distribution by Navarre; SHR was Strictly Hype Recordings.4,3,5,6

The band described the CD as ten tracks "among the best we've ever made so far, all mixed together like a mix CD", with a general sound close to Love and Desire, which it called the first track of the CD and gave away free on its site, MP3.com and Popwire to celebrate the release. The album could be ordered from Amazon.com and the Dance Music Store before release day and reached record stores in late August. The band later thanked the label for letting it keep tracks from the album online on MP3.com.3,5,6

In the autumn of 2000 several visitors to the band's guestbook wrote that they had bought the new album or found it in a record store. The band's biography of 2005 calls it the band's debut album and says it sold about 18,000 copies in the United States and Canada, against the label's projection of about 3,000. In October 2003 Alexander pointed forum members to customer reviews at Amazon.com and Yahoo! Shopping; several members replied that it had been their first trance[]control album or that they had come across it in a store, and seven of the nine who answered the thread's poll had bought it. By April 2007 Amazon's page for the original CD carried 28 customer reviews.7,8,2,9

SHR later closed. In October 2003 Alexander wrote that the label no longer existed and that Warlock Records had bought what remained of it; Warlock had re-released Beyond 2001 on 24 September 2002, the same day as its edition of SHR's compilation Ecstacy Vol.2, and in 2003 the band's site listed the album as re-released by Warlock Records. In April 2004 Alexander told a listener that Beyond 2001 could still be found on Amazon.com. From July 2004 the band's own discography listed the album under its own label, trance[]control Productions, and by March 2013 a remastered digital edition, Beyond 2001: The Resurrection (Remastered), was on sale in Amazon's MP3 store.1,10,2,11,12,13,14,15,16
