About the release

Its tracks went online between September 2003 and March 2004, after donations from listeners had paid for a new studio computer, and by November 2003 the band's MP3.com page already tagged Lobotomized Unicorn, Imported Nightmare, Unicorn R.I.P and Small Drops of Acid with the CD MISSION 2002 Vol.3. MP3.com stopped selling CDs that month, and the album came out through Ampcast, where the band had begun recreating its earlier CDs in January 2004.3,4,5,6,7

Announcing it on 30 April 2004, Alexander counted the three CDs together as 26 songs, 25 plus one mix, and showed the artwork: the disc, the front, the inside cover and back panel, and the back of the tray. The CD cost $13, and he wrote that Ampcast would be the band's outlet for CDs for now. The discs were duplicated CD-Rs, and, as Alexander found when his sample copy arrived, Ampcast printed the disc label in black and white, as its specification said.1,8

The band's own dates for the CD differ: its music page of June 2004 dated the Ampcast CDs 30 May 2004, and from July 2004 its discography gave 30 May 2003, months before the first of the album's tracks went online. The page of the 2012 remaster said the album was originally released early in 2004.9,10,3,2

On 19 December 2006 the band reissued it through Cafepress, at $7.99, and in May 2012 it was remastered for a digital release.11,12,2

In their words

“I'm proud to announce that M2002 Vol.3 was released today!”

Alexander Carlborg, 30 April 20041

“We've slowed down the pace of creation, taking more time to complete and perfect each production to it's fullest.”
