About the release
The album grew out of the band's work of 2001. In June 2001 the band wrote on MP3.com that it had been busy laying down new tracks, with a new album coming out later that year, and its MP3.com entries for Beginning of the End, Bring out the Dead, Come to Daddy and other tracks named the CD as Out There. Six of the nine tracks the band later listed for the album had also been on Audiographic Moments, its MP3.com CD of July 2001. By February 2002 the band had presented the album's track list in a news thread on its message board.3,4,5
The band's later accounts of the release differ. By October 2002 its MP3.com page called the title track the theme of "the album that never was released", dropped after a long line of problems with labels, and in June 2003 its website left OUT THERE out of its list of CD releases. The press kit of November 2003 listed it among the band's retail albums, dated 15 January 2002, as "Discontinued due to label crash", and from 2004 the website dated it 5 February 2002, a retail CD released through Sunrise Recordings.3,6,7,1,8
In 2004 the band's web shop wrote that the album had first been pressed in 5,000 copies but was pulled from the shelves when the label closed, so that only a few hundred copies reached the market. In October 2003 Alexander told listeners that with luck they might find it on Amazon.com, and forum members who went looking in late 2003 reported finding copies through Amazon.com, eBay and other online shops.2,9,10
On 30 April 2004 the band reissued OUT THERE on CD through Ampcast, though not exactly as SHR had released it, since the original ran 78:48 and Ampcast allowed 70 minutes. In 2012 Out There, A Concept of Love (in Harmony) and Conga Trance were among the remastered tracks of the collection Lost and Found.11,12
In their words
“A few hundred copies got out on the market, making this a very hard-2-get release.”
